Gentle Readers,
Last night I armoured up for what was, I think, the third time in my life (the first being when I was thirteen and the second sometime before Lydia was born but after we bought the house). There were a couple of problems found at inspection: helmet should sit lower to protect the back of the neck if I lean forward, sword needs lanyard or trigger and also something to more permanently attach the guard, elbows do not sit high enough due to the extra puffy knee pads I was using as the soft under my elbows.
I got 15-20 min in fighting shyska and then I had to stop because of a nasty tension headache starting up the back of my skull. Even with the modified padding, that helmet is not going to work. It needs to be both completely re-padded and probably also modified to sit a little lower. With luck this will be moot as I'm going to buy the oval-one's kit this weekend and hopefully his helmet will suit me better.
The fighting with shyska was pretty good. I didn't feel overwhelmed but the not being able to see below my waist was very disconcerting. She was very gentle with me and didn't break anything.
