Crime Scene Infestation

Gentle Readers,
"All right gentlemen, the call went out about five minutes ago. That means we have a bit less than an hour before the big guns get here. Let's take a look and see what we've got."
The three trainees watched their superior as the grizzled old veteran looked over the bloody crime scene. After a careful inspection, he turned to the three.
"All right, let's see what you know. Carter, what can you tell me about this one?"
"Well, he looks a bit inside out."
"I can see that. Perhaps you could tell me why?"
"Um. Something inside him tried to get out?"
"Multiple somethings! There's more than one exit point." interjected Linden.
"Good catch Linden. OK Raisten, then what... Raisten, green is your experience level, not your colour. There's no shame in using a bag. However, if you taint my crime scene I'm putting you on autopsy duty."
"Linden, perhaps you could tell me what happened next."
"Well, sir, whatever it was started heading en-mass towards the other corpse but then they stop here and it looks like a grenade went off. He must have set one off to try an protect himself from the swarm and did it too close and didn't get away. Thus the obvious shrapnel wounds"
"Not bad Linden." She beamed in response.
"However, you are ignoring two things. Regardless of the availability of such a thing, the 911 call did not say anything about a explosion and he's holding a can of RAID."
The trainees looked at him blankly.
He pulled out a laser pointer and gestured to the burst corpse.
"This is the typical birth pattern of a Thraxnid egg mass. Having exhausted the food from the host, the first thing they do is head to the nearest living creature, in this case the roommate. You can see the blood trails converging. The roommate, who seems to have been able to think pretty well in a stressful situation, grabs the can of RAID and sprays down the swarm. What didn't he know?"
Carter and Linden looked stumped.
Raisten wiped his mouth with the back of his sleve and said "They exploded. Exothermic reaction to the bug spray. It's what happened to my Grandfather."
"Right. Thank you Raisten. OK people. This is a level 3 potential threat. Carter and Linden, you have 20 min before the cops get here to make this look like a couple of stoners playing catch with a hand grenade. Raisten, you're with me to make sure that there are no hatchlings left. I want this clean and by the book.Get moving!"
