Still more fencing
Mar. 4th, 2011 06:43 pmGentle Readers,
I know I don't seem to talk about much else, but it's what I am doing with
my time. Ok, I did make reyl brownies on Wednesday.
Anyway, Tuesday we worked on the lunges of meyer. The stuff from last week
was reasonably well retained. We added the reversed thrust, the double
thrust and one other that I cannot lookup as I am on the bus. Since at least
one of them seems to be derived from the master cuts, I need to go through
all of them and see if that is the case for any others. So far most of them
seem to be counter actions. I will also need to look at methods for moving
into distance.
Thursday was also good. At OCS, we started with dagger first refreshing the
plays from last week, then adding the counters to the counters. Cortejo
would have liked that. From there we worked craig's guard progression with
the messer and verified they worked reasonably well. The drills are still a
work in progress.
Finally we ended with a run through of I.33 for A so that we can start
looking at how it works against other s+b systems.
After that it was off to the SCA practice. I got some good capo ferro
practice in. The problems this week seemed to be excessive struggling with
the blade, short distance and not countering with angulation in response to
a deflection. Played a bit of longsword and tid better with that. It is hard
not to cut. Ended with some s+b against someone with limited experience and
did really well. Good ending.
The good fencing cleared out the bad taste in my mouth from the HEMA forum I
was attempting to participate in. Yay.
