Gentle Readers,

I'm in the process of reorganizing our house for the next stages of our renovation. As we just got back from the last camping event of the year this is also packing away most of our garb and the majority of our SCA gear. We have a lot of SCA crap. I'm thinking we should arrange a garb swap at some event just to clear some of this nice stuff that we never wear out of our house. Of course we'd have to bring it to an event...

Regardless, we had an amazingly good time at the event. We were exceptionally well taken care of arriving to a set up tent and a delicious stew that Lydia ate 2 bowls of.

I did a whole bunch of sewing. I was testing out the idea of finishing off the edges of the pieces before putting the garment together. I'm not completely sold on this for tunics but it does have the advantage of ensuring that the garment is fully finished instead of letting things go because you have to wear the thing before it's finished and never get around to finishing the rest of it. It looks like I can make a decent tunic from less than 1.5m of fabric which is good.

I also got to do some fencing with a big pile of Ben Dunfirth fencers, authorizing 2 of them and managing to tire out his magesty's sword arm (and he tired out my legs, so that's fair). We did a whole bunch of pickup on the first day and then ran scenarios at the fort on the second. It was a blast and I was really lucky to have such enthusiastic opponents.

In between the fencing and the sewing were more fantastic feasts for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Court happened at almost the chronological middle of the weekend. There were a number of surprise awards including one for me.

A few years ago, Eyrny let slip to me that I was being discussed on the Thorbjorn's Hammer list. I told her the truth, I was not deserving at that point. I wasn't playing, or practicing or going to events or anything.

Since getting back to being more active, I'd become more hopeful only to be slightly disappointed every time the order was called forth and I was not called to join them. This was almost always mitigated by being thrilled for whoever was brought into the order. After I was selected as Baron, I figured that was it for a while anyway, although I still got a little hopeful each time.

Thorbjorn's Hammer is our grant level award for combat. Unlike many kingdoms we don't differentiate between the combat forms at the grant level so this is the equivalent to a white scarf for those kingdoms who are signatories of the treaty. This also means that it is the highest award for fencing that exists in this kingdom.

I'm pretty sure that my grin split my face when I was called up. Then I saw the scroll that dabunz and mythmaker999 made for me and my mouth fell open. It was gorgeous (and still is!). I think now I understand that what makes us an Honorable Lord at the grant level is how amazingly honoured we feel to be numbered among those who consider us to be their peers.
