All 3 of them. I'm not talking about Reyl, he's off in Montreal. We've got a new addition in the house.

His name is Shadow and he's an 8 year old Great Pyranese. He's absolutely lovely. His temperament is just fantastic and he seems to have integrated himself into the house quite well.

This is his first week with us. Thankfully no one seems to be allergic which is good, although we have all chosen the last 2 weeks to be sick and unhappy and my work just happens to be in the pre-trade show crunch that happens at this time every year.

What with being sick this week, I was hit fairly hard with a number of significant bugs being as a result of changes I've done. So no working out, no time to think about much and being the cause of work for other people left me feeling old, fat, slow and stupid. Thankfully, this is lj/dw and is the optimal place to winge about feeling like I'm not meeting my own standards and how everything sucks.

Thursday I didn't want to go back to work, but I'd been off for two days already (and spent half of them working from home instead of resting). It ended up being a good thing because I finally managed to solve a bug that's been sporadically appearing since the beginning. Fixing that left me feeling like things were turning around. The fact that the weather has been springlike certainly helps (even if I haven't had much energy to be doing thing).

So, with this renewed mental energy and the springlike weather (even if I do expect a new dump of snow at least once this month) I'm going to set new month resolutions.

First, I will walk to the main bus station. There's really no good reason not to. it only saves me about 5 min tops and frequently, I wait that long for the bus to show up.

Second, I will set up my flow charts and work out my Pallas Armata lesson plan. Craig's work with the new lesson plan for the sword hall is fantastic and I want to keep pace with him.

Third, I will go to BJJ 4 times this month. My Thursday schedule allows it so there's no good reason not to.

Four, I will give Shadow all of the loves, because, really, he's awesome.

commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2009-04-14:58499:33273Things of note2010-04-20T19:23:49Z2010-04-20T19:23:49Zpublic0Gentle Readers,

Firstly my daughter is amazing. After being disappointed with her report card (because she didn't have straight A's) we explained to her that the teacher can't tell the difference between not doing something because you can't and not doing something because you don't want to. So this week we got a note back telling us that she has improved significantly in her participation in class activities since then and Lydia was thrilled that she got to pick the sticker. In addition she got her 8th stripe at BJJ and will be invited to test for her junior yellow belt shortly. I'm very pleased and proud.

For me, I'm getting ready for a crazy week next week by having a crazy week this week. I got the body block for his highness to try on done last night and booked a few minutes of his time on Saturday (his coronation) to get him to try it on. I guess he either likes the idea of the garb or likes me or both.

In other news I wore out my skipping rope today. I'd like to try and <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-a-Durable-Jump-Rope/>make one but I'll probably end up buying one instead.
On Sunday I have to be at the airport by noon to fly out to Las Vegas for my first trade show and my first time in Vegas. I'm a little anxious but I'm sure it will be interesting.

commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2009-04-14:58499:14928Interesting Times Ahead2009-09-18T16:03:46Z2009-09-18T16:03:46Zpublic0Gentle Readers,

My real world is almost completely drama free at the moment. It's not terribly exciting but I can live with that. This week I've demolished a bunch of stuff in my basement and moved almost a dump truck of dirt not to mention dealing with a briefly sick little girl, aikido and a family Tae Kwon Do class. So, drama free but very busy. In addition, everyone involved seems on board with the plans for the basement so that is also good.

An interesting note, after the TKD class last night, Lydia and I decided to weigh ourselves. She was just under 50 lbs. I was just over 200. Cool as it is to weigh 4 Lydias, I was a little surprised as that means I've gained at least 10 lbs in the last 4 months, but my pants still fit the same way. Also, I should throw out the bathroom scale.

Anyway, in my pretend world, drama has started (as I knew it would) when their Highnesses announced that they would be banning Dueling as part of their royal whims. This probably wouldn't have been so bad except that they were not terribly clear about what constituted dueling and some of our fencers can be a little sensitive about what could be perceeved as a banning of their activity.

There are a couple of people who sound really incensed about this and are talking about things like "a special salute". I really hope that this is not done especially given that one of these people ignored the final round of the last crown tourny in order to keep fighting pick-up.

Personally don't see what the big deal is. As long as tournaments are not described as duels there's no problem what so ever.

comments
